Five Minutes with Matt Wozniak

We sat down with our newly appointed Group Operations Director for Venues and Events, Matt Wozniak to find out more about his role, and what he's learnt in his first few months with us.

How did you get into the events industry?

I started a work placement in mass participation sports events 27 years ago in the spring of 1997 at LEA Sport and Leisure, where I got the chance to work on some huge events, with some great people who taught me so much. Since then I never looked back, and I’m proud to say some of the people I met are still friends and mentors to this day!

Tell us about your role at Evolution London?

As the Group Operations Director, I oversee the operational management of our flagship venue, Evolution London, at Smart Group. With a hands-on, quality-focused approach, I ensure the highest standards of client care and event delivery. This involves effective leadership of the venue, on-site operations, and account management teams.

What's your favourite thing about the venue?

My favourite thing about Evolution London has to be the versatility of the venue. From hosting award dinners and brand activations to product launches, exhibitions and conferences all set within the picturesque backdrop of a London park, it offers a unique setting for diverse events. Also seeing the team working closely with the client and service providers to transform the venue is always incredible.

What's your favourite event been at Evolution London?

This year, there were several standout events that left a lasting impression on me. One of the highlights was Adobe Max London, a dynamic conference which featured captivating keynote speakers, including Louis Theroux, and offered an engaging exhibition and masterclasses for over 1500 guests. Hosting such a prestigious and influential brand was an incredible opportunity that showcased the versatility and appeal of our venue.

Another remarkable event was Hospitality Rocks, our own annual event, held for the events industry to celebrate the end of the busy festive season. Seeing the venue undergo a stunning transformation for the occasion was unforgettable, and the continual success of the event highlights the exceptional capabilities of our team and the unique charm of Evolution London.

What has your role at Evolution London taught you?

My role has shown me just how important good communication is. Working with our talented internal team across all departments has taught me that clear and consistent communication is key. It’s what helps us bring our clients’ visions to life and make every event a success.
