What We've Been Up To: A Quick Sustainability Round-Up

From fighting food waste to supporting global education, we've been putting our sustainability values into action. Take a look at what we've been up to since the start of the year...

Small Steps, Big Impact

At Evolution London, we’re always looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint and create a more positive impact – both close to home and across the globe. Over the past few months, we’ve made some fantastic progress. From tackling food waste with City Harvest, to supporting local communities through HandsOn London, and empowering girls globally via B1G1 and So They Can, we’ve been putting our values into action.

We’re proud of the steps we’ve taken and we’re excited to share what we’ve been working on, as well as what’s next on our sustainability journey.

HandsOn London

In March, to mark International Women’s Day, our incredible Green Smarties team brought colleagues from across Smart Group together for a special volunteer session at HQ, in partnership with HandsOn London. Together, they created heartfelt ‘New Mum Kits’ – thoughtfully decorated bags filled with essential items for new mothers, each one topped with a handwritten note for an extra personal touch.

These kits are now being distributed by HandsOn London to women in need- including those from low-income households or facing difficult circumstances – offering a small but meaningful gesture of comfort, care and solidarity when it’s needed most.

So They Can

Following our morning with HandsOn London, we extended our International Women’s Day efforts globally through our ongoing partnership with B1G1. Together, we supported So They Can to provide 107 girls in Africa with access to sanitary pads and sexual health education, giving each of them enough resources to support them for an entire year.

So They Can work to remove barriers to education by addressing key challenges such as lack of menstrual products, early pregnancy, and school dropout rates. Through initiatives like this, they help young girls stay in school, gain confidence, and build brighter futures.

Each girl will receive an NIA Dignity Pack, which includes washable sanitary pads, underwear, and soap — giving them the tools they need to manage their periods with dignity.

The number 107 wasn’t a coincidence, this was chosen to represent the incredible women who work across the group, both full-time and freelance, and highlights the collective power we have to make a difference together.

B1G1

We’re also celebrating a big milestone — two years of creating impact through our partnership with B1G1. We’re incredibly proud to have achieved Gold Impact Partner status, a reflection of the positive change we’ve been able to drive together.

So far, we’ve contributed to over 150,000 life-changing impacts — from providing 54,112 days of access to life-enhancing tools, to delivering 46,080 days of feminine hygiene support to girls, and planting 29,229 trees around the world.

And we’re not stopping there — our goal is to reach 200,000 impacts by the end of the year.

City Harvest

We’re also incredibly proud to have kicked off a new partnership with City Harvest London – a fantastic organisation that rescues surplus food and redistributes it to hundreds of charities across the capital. From food banks and homeless shelters to schools and community centres, they ensure good food reaches those who need it most.

Our partnership is threefold:

  • Surplus food donations from our events
  • Monetary donations raised through our Green Levy
  • Giving our time through volunteering days

In April, eight Smarties from across the business got stuck in at City Harvest’s Acton HQ for our first official volunteer day. From sorting food to loading vans, they helped get the essential supplies to local foodbanks – all while learning more about the inspiring work happening from behind the scenes.

In just one day, our 56 volunteer hours resulted in:

  • 29,680 meals provided
  • 12.5 tonnes of food redistributed
  •  32 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions prevented

We also donated £6,000 to kickstart the partnership — funding 18,000 meals — and have already rescued 7.56 tonnes of surplus food from our own events, helping to prevent 18.9 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. This partnership is a key part of our broader commitment to a more sustainable events industry and to giving back to the community that surrounds us. We’re incredibly proud of the passion our team brought to this initiative — and we can’t wait to return in August to do even more.

SEE US IN ACTION!

Green Levy

None of this would be possible without our Green Levy — an optional 50p per person charge that helps make our events more sustainable and impactful. Thanks to the generosity of 336 businesses who’ve opted in, we’ve raised over £60,000 so far, directly supporting the projects and partnerships you’ve seen here.

Whether it’s reducing food waste, supporting communities near and far, or helping build a more sustainable future, these contributions are making a real difference. A huge thank you to everyone who’s joined us on this journey — we couldn’t do it without you.

Here’s to keeping the momentum going and making an even greater impact, together.
