What We've Been Up To: A Quick Sustainability Round-Up
From fighting food waste to supporting global education, we've been putting our sustainability values into action. Take a look at what we've been up to since the start of the year...
Small Steps, Big Impact
At Evolution London, we’re always looking for ways to reduce our environmental footprint and create a more positive impact – both close to home and across the globe. Over the past few months, we’ve made some fantastic progress. From tackling food waste with City Harvest, to supporting local communities through HandsOn London, and empowering girls globally via B1G1 and So They Can, we’ve been putting our values into action.
We’re proud of the steps we’ve taken and we’re excited to share what we’ve been working on, as well as what’s next on our sustainability journey.
So They Can
Following our morning with HandsOn London, we extended our International Women’s Day efforts globally through our ongoing partnership with B1G1. Together, we supported So They Can to provide 107 girls in Africa with access to sanitary pads and sexual health education, giving each of them enough resources to support them for an entire year.
So They Can work to remove barriers to education by addressing key challenges such as lack of menstrual products, early pregnancy, and school dropout rates. Through initiatives like this, they help young girls stay in school, gain confidence, and build brighter futures.
Each girl will receive an NIA Dignity Pack, which includes washable sanitary pads, underwear, and soap — giving them the tools they need to manage their periods with dignity.
The number 107 wasn’t a coincidence, this was chosen to represent the incredible women who work across the group, both full-time and freelance, and highlights the collective power we have to make a difference together.
City Harvest
We’re also incredibly proud to have kicked off a new partnership with City Harvest London – a fantastic organisation that rescues surplus food and redistributes it to hundreds of charities across the capital. From food banks and homeless shelters to schools and community centres, they ensure good food reaches those who need it most.
Our partnership is threefold:
- Surplus food donations from our events
- Monetary donations raised through our Green Levy
- Giving our time through volunteering days
In April, eight Smarties from across the business got stuck in at City Harvest’s Acton HQ for our first official volunteer day. From sorting food to loading vans, they helped get the essential supplies to local foodbanks – all while learning more about the inspiring work happening from behind the scenes.
In just one day, our 56 volunteer hours resulted in:
- 29,680 meals provided
- 12.5 tonnes of food redistributed
- 32 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions prevented
We also donated £6,000 to kickstart the partnership — funding 18,000 meals — and have already rescued 7.56 tonnes of surplus food from our own events, helping to prevent 18.9 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions. This partnership is a key part of our broader commitment to a more sustainable events industry and to giving back to the community that surrounds us. We’re incredibly proud of the passion our team brought to this initiative — and we can’t wait to return in August to do even more.
